PIFF and Kufiya Cafe invite you to an intimate evening of remembrance, , honoring the life and work of the late Mohammad Bakri (1949–2025).
The programme centers on a recorded interview Bakri made with PIFF before our last edition — one of his final public reflections. In this conversation, he speaks about Palestine, his artistic journey, and his personal and professional experiences, while reflecting on his last project as a film director, Janin, Jenin 2024.
The interview is interwoven with selected segments from his work, allowing Bakri’s own voice to guide the evening, to cretae a space to listen, remember and engage with the words of a filmmaker who consistently used cinema as a form of truth, resistance, and moral clarity.

PIFF invites you to an evening of remembrance honoring the life and work of Mohammad Bakri, hosted at Kufiya Cafe.
The event will include a screening of Bakri’s work, alongside a recent interview he recorded especially for PIFF’s 2nd edition — one of his last public reflections. Mohammad Bakri passed away on 24/12/2025, leaving behind an immense cultural and artistic legacy that continues to shape Palestinian cinema and collective memory.
Bakri was not only a renowned actor and filmmaker, but also a fearless cultural figure who consistently used cinema as a tool of truth, resistance, and moral clarity. Through his performances and his uncompromising documentary work, he challenged dominant narratives, confronted injustice, and insisted on the humanity of the Palestinian experience. His work remains a testament to the power of cinema to bear witness and to resist erasure.
A great supporter of PIFF, Bakri believed deeply in the importance of independent Palestinian cultural spaces and stood in solidarity with the festival’s vision and values. This evening is an invitation to remember him not only with grief, but with gratitude — for his voice, his courage, and his lifelong commitment to justice, art, and Palestine.

Το PIFF σας προσκαλεί σε μια βραδιά μνήμης αφιερωμένη στη ζωή και το έργο του Mohammad Bakri, στο Kufiya Cafe.
Η εκδήλωση θα περιλαμβάνει προβολή έργου του Bakri, καθώς και μια πρόσφατη συνέντευξη που ηχογράφησε ειδικά για τη 2η διοργάνωση του PIFF — μία από τις τελευταίες δημόσιες παρεμβάσεις του. Ο Mohammad Bakri έφυγε από τη ζωή στις 24/12/2025, αφήνοντας πίσω του μια τεράστια πολιτιστική και καλλιτεχνική παρακαταθήκη που συνεχίζει να διαμορφώνει τον παλαιστινιακό κινηματογράφο και τη συλλογική μνήμη.
Ο Bakri δεν ήταν μόνο ένας καταξιωμένος ηθοποιός και σκηνοθέτης, αλλά και μια θαρραλέα πολιτιστική μορφή που χρησιμοποίησε σταθερά τον κινηματογράφο ως εργαλείο αλήθειας, αντίστασης και ηθικής διαύγειας. Μέσα από τις ερμηνείες του και το ασυμβίβαστο ντοκιμαντερίστικο έργο του, αμφισβήτησε κυρίαρχες αφηγήσεις, αντιπαρατέθηκε στην αδικία και επέμεινε στην ανθρώπινη διάσταση της παλαιστινιακής εμπειρίας. Το έργο του παραμένει μια ζωντανή μαρτυρία της δύναμης του κινηματογράφου να καταγράφει, να αντιστέκεται και να αρνείται τη διαγραφή.
Σταθερός υποστηρικτής του PIFF, ο Bakri πίστευε βαθιά στη σημασία των ανεξάρτητων παλαιστινιακών πολιτιστικών χώρων και στάθηκε αλληλέγγυος στο όραμα και τις αξίες του φεστιβάλ. Η βραδιά αυτή αποτελεί αφορμή να τον θυμηθούμε όχι μόνο με πένθος, αλλά και με ευγνωμοσύνη — για τη φωνή του, το θάρρος του και τη διαρκή του δέσμευση στη δικαιοσύνη, την τέχνη και την Παλαιστίνη.
